What is the cut-off for Dartford Grammar School for Girls?
We could not find a cut-off score published by the school or Kent County Council. What the school does publish is how it ranks: after looked after children and girls eligible for the Pupil Premium, 100 places are reserved for girls living in the Borough of Dartford or ten named parishes, and the rest go to all remaining eligible girls. Within each group the highest Kent Test total comes first.
How places are decided
- The school offers 180 Year 7 places for September 2027.
- Entry is through the Kent Test: a girl who reaches the required standard in the Kent assessment is eligible for admission.
- If there are more eligible girls than places, the order is: looked after and previously looked after children; then girls eligible for the Pupil Premium; then 100 places reserved for girls living in the Borough of Dartford or one of ten named parishes; then all remaining eligible girls, whatever their address.
- The ten named parishes are Ash-cum-Ridley, Crockenhill, Eynsford, Farningham, Fawkham, Hartley, Hextable, Horton Kirby and South Darenth, Swanley and West Kingsdown.
- Within each of those groups girls are ranked by their total (aggregate) Kent Test score, highest first. Tied scores are separated by distance from the school, nearest first, and then by independent random selection.
- For this school the Pupil Premium means a girl registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. Families applying on that basis send a Supplementary Information Form to the school by 1 November 2026.
- The school’s admission arrangements have no criterion for sisters already at the school.
- We looked for a cut-off score published by the school or by Kent County Council, for any year, and could not find one. That is not the same as saying that none exists: the school’s admissions office is the place to ask.
- For September 2026 entry Kent County Council recorded 1,273 applications, counting every preference, for the school’s 180 places.
Questions parents ask
Does passing the Kent Test guarantee a grammar school place?
No. Passing makes your child eligible, but grammar schools are often oversubscribed and each one ranks the eligible children by its own admissions criteria. Some rank by score, some by where you live and how far away, and some by both.
We live outside Kent. Can my child take the Kent Test?
Yes. Kent County Council asks you to register only if you intend to apply for a Kent grammar school. Children from schools outside the council’s area sit the test at a Kent testing centre at the weekend. You then apply on your own council’s form, even for a Kent school. Some Kent grammar schools, particularly those most likely to offer places to children from outside Kent, give priority to the highest scores.
A cut-off or a distance is what was needed that year. It changes every year and is not a promise for the next. The school’s own website is dartfordgrammargirls.org.uk.
