For the test sat in September 2025 (September 2026 entry), a child needed a total of 332 or more, with no single score below 108. Each of the three scores runs from 69 to 141, so the highest total is 423. The figure for the test sat in September 2026 was not yet published when this page was checked; Kent County Council says it will be available in October 2026.
Scores and the pass mark
- Each child gets three standardised scores, for English, maths and reasoning, and a total (aggregate) score. Standardising adjusts slightly for age, so that the youngest children are not at a disadvantage.
- Each score ranges from 69 to 141, so the highest possible total is 423.
- For the Kent Test sat in September 2025 (for September 2026 entry), a child needed a total score of 332 or more, with no single score lower than 108, to be assessed suitable for grammar school. Kent County Council calls this the grammar school threshold; parents often call it the pass mark.

- Reaching the threshold makes a child eligible for a Kent grammar school. It does not guarantee a place at any particular school: each school ranks eligible children by its own admissions criteria.

Questions parents ask
What was the Kent Test pass mark in earlier years?
The total needed was 332 in each of the last four tests. What changed was the lowest single score allowed: 108 for the test sat in 2025, 106 in 2024, 107 in 2023 and 108 in 2022. A past pass mark is not a promise for the next test.
Does passing the Kent Test guarantee a grammar school place?
No. Passing makes your child eligible, but grammar schools are often oversubscribed and each one ranks the eligible children by its own admissions criteria. Some rank by score, some by where you live and how far away, and some by both.
